As I shared about on Sunday, November is national adoption month. Below I’m going to link to and comment on some resources on adoption and foster care.
There’s an excellent blog about adoption and our church written by Amanda from back in August. She has several resources mentioned there.
Together for Adoption has many biblical resources on adoption. If you want sound, biblical reasons to adopt, provide foster care, and global orphan care, check out their stuff. If you want to know what adoption looks like as a Christian, they have resources for you.
Bethany Christan Services is the largest Christian adoption agency. Domestic or international adoption is available through this reputable organization, along with opportunities to provide temporary homes to children in need.
To learn about adoption and foster care through the state of Iowa, check out Iowa KidsNet. They facilitate foster care and adoption through the state. If you have a heart for children who have been neglected or abused, this is a great avenue to get involved with. Also, adoption through the state costs a small fraction of what it costs through a private agency.
Here is an excellent resource on myths versus realities of adoption. For instance, many people have the impression adopting a baby is virtually impossible. However, 20,000 or more US born infants are placed for adoption each year. Infants often are placed into the foster care system, also.
Please read Amanda’s blog, check out the resources at church, and don’t hesitate to talk to someone about your questions about adoption or foster care.
