This morning on my Facebook news feed, I noticed Bethany Christian Services posted this:

“National Foster Care month (May!) reminds us of the amazing servants all over our country who live in the trenches of loving and nurturing children in need. Let’s all take a moment in our day and remember to pray for foster parents nationwide.”

So, I would like to encourage our church body to participate in doing that.

Also, below is a link to the form for making a donation to the Friends of Children in Foster Care program. The program funds extra things that many children in foster care aren’t able to get unless their birth family can afford them or the foster family pays, such as music lessons, senior pictures, and graduation items (there is a list on the form). If the Lord leads you to do so, this is one way you can help children in foster care.

Finally, something that has been on my mind recently are some articles about international adoption, specifically criticisms regarding some Christian adoption agencies and adoptive families. The first is an article by David French, an adoptive father and senior counsel at American Center for Law and Justice: Is the Left Launching an Attack on Evangelical Adoption?

  • The thing I think about when I read about the Above Rubies family is that we should be known primarily for our love, and representing Jesus to the world. I think that sadly many Christians become very preoccupied with things that marginalize them, other than just faithfulness to Christ alone. Many of the accusations in the article related to the subsistence lifestyle they have chosen to live, which really has little or nothing do do with Christian living.
